The Top Quark Workshop Experience

Quark Workshops is a skill-building platform launched in 2007 by Nandan Saxena and Kavita Bahl. In the last 14 years, we have offered over 50 workshops at all the major film festivals in India. Quark Workshops has also travelled to UK, Singapore and Australia.

We do focussed sessions on various aspects of filmmaking: the art of story-telling, photography, cinematography, lighting, sound-recording, editing and colour grading. Our wide range of participants range from DOPs, Directors and technicians from film Industry to documentarians, photographers and student filmmakers.

As mentors, we become the bridge between latest technology and the filmmakers. We help the industry professionals re-tool and recalibrate their skills. Our workshops are spread over two-four days modules which are customised according to the requirement of the participants.

Mumbai International Film Festival (2018)

Four days of intense exchange, interaction and sharing- our filmmaking workshop at MIFF turned out to be an exciting event.

Since it was our third workshop at MIFF, we had our fingers on the pulse of our audience. We carefully choreographed our workshop to give a holistic picture of the entire loop of creation of cinematic images to our audience.

The outdoors session drew a big crowd. We opened the first session talking about choosing the right technical decisions according to the need of the project and the use of accessories like gimbal.

Professionals in the fields of 4K filmmaking, lighting, colour grading shared their experiences and tips with the participants.

Our keen participants kept us charged for four days as we unpeeled the layers of the process of film-making. We had students, film-makers, technicians, writers, actors, film lovers in front of us.

It is always exciting to be at the biggest film festival in India. Quark Workshops is a veteran of IFFI as we have held four workshops there. Our participants at IFFI comprise of senior cinematographers, sound designers, editors and also young filmmakers. So, we decided to recreate a scene from a film for them.

The use of props, lights with gels, actors in costumes and smoke machine enlivened the space. Everything was happening real time- in front of the participants. It turned out to be an intense and interactive session.

The four-day workshop was packed and our participants skipped film screenings to attend the workshop. We draw our energy
